1. FC Union Berlin (officially 1. Union Berlin e.V. football club) is a football club from Berlin-Köpenick, which was founded in 1966. The club is based on SC Union Oberschoeneweide, which was active in the first half of the 20th century and in 1923 was the German runner-up. Since 1920, 1. FC Union Berlin and its predecessor clubs have played in the An der Alten Försterei stadium.

With 49,152 members (as of December 31, 2022), Union Berlin (before Hertha BSC) is the larger of the two large Berlin sports clubs, both of which are among the 15 sports clubs with the most members in Germany.
The sporting successes of the club include winning the GDR FDGB Cup in 1968 and reaching the DFB Cup final in 2001 and thus qualifying for the UEFA Cup for the 2001/02 season. The first team had played continuously in the 2nd Bundesliga for ten years before they were promoted to the 1st Bundesliga for the first time in the 2018/19 season and were able to maintain the class in the following season. In the 2020/21 season, 1. FC Union Berlin qualified for the UEFA Conference League. In the 2021/22 season, Union Berlin reached the Europa League for the first time with 5th place in the Bundesliga.
